From military base to civil airport: the history of Weeze
For decades the site was a military airfield: the British Royal Air Force operated RAF Laarbruch here until the late 1990s. After the troops withdrew, the area was converted for civilian use.
Passenger flights have operated from Weeze since 2003, mainly by low-cost airlines to destinations across Europe. Former barracks and hangars are now used for business and leisure, including large music festivals.
