History

Civil and military: the history of Rostock-Laage Airport

Laage airfield was built as a military airfield during the GDR era. After reunification the German armed forces took over the site, and an Air Force wing is still stationed here today.

In parallel, a civil area with its own terminal was created in the 1990s. Since then holiday airlines and cruise charter flights have used the airport. This shared military and civil use is relatively rare in Germany.
