The first new airport of the post-war era: history of NUE
Nuremberg had a commercial airport before the war, but it was destroyed. In the mid-1950s a completely new airport opened in the north of the city – one of the first new builds of its kind in the young Federal Republic.
The airport has been expanded several times since then. A special feature is its direct underground (U-Bahn) connection to the central station. Since 2014 it has carried the name of Nuremberg’s most famous artist, Albrecht Dürer.
