History

From air base to Allgäu Airport: the history

For decades the Memmingerberg airfield was a German Air Force base with a fighter-bomber wing stationed there. After the wing was disbanded in the early 2000s, the region looked for a new use.

With support from many local businesses the site was converted into a civil airport and started scheduled flights in 2007. Today Allgäu Airport is known mainly for low-cost connections across Europe and is an important gateway for tourists to southern Bavaria.
