History

Flying above the Siegerland: history of the airport

The airfield on the Lipper Höhe was built in the 1960s to connect the highly industrial Siegen-Wittgenstein region and the neighbouring Lahn-Dill area to air travel. In the following decades there were at times scheduled flights to major German cities.

Today the focus is on general aviation: corporate jets, flight schools and private pilots use the runway, along with charter and special flights. On clear days its hilltop location offers wide views over the Westerwald and Siegerland.
