From Langenhagen to the world: history of Hanover Airport
When the old airfield in Vahrenwald became too small, civil aviation moved to Langenhagen in the early 1950s. The new site had room for longer runways and grew quickly during Germany’s post-war boom.
A milestone was the EXPO 2000 world exhibition, for which Terminal C was built and the airport was connected to the S-Bahn network. Today HAJ links Lower Saxony with holiday destinations and European capitals and is open around the clock.
