Frequently asked questions
Which terminal at LAX for flights to Frankfurt?
Lufthansa departs from the Tom Bradley International Terminal (TBIT), and most other long-haul international airlines use it too. Condor’s seasonal flights may use TBIT or another terminal — always check your airline app. TBIT is in the centre of the horseshoe and connected airside to some neighbouring terminals.

How do I get a taxi or Uber at LAX?
Taxis and app-based rides (Uber, Lyft) do not pick up at the terminal curbs. Follow the green ‘LAX-it’ signs to the shuttle stops on the lower/arrivals level; free shuttles take you to the LAX-it lot near Terminal 1, where you meet your car. Walking from Terminals 1 and 2 is also possible.
How early should I get to LAX for an international flight?
Plan to arrive at least 3 hours before an international departure. Traffic on the airport loop and the 405 freeway can add 30–60 minutes at peak times, so leave extra margin — especially on Friday and Sunday evenings.
What is the Theme Building at LAX?
The Theme Building is the space-age, flying-saucer-like structure in the middle of the airport, completed in 1961 and designated a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument. It is one of the most recognisable symbols of LAX and Los Angeles.

How far is LAX from Hollywood and downtown Los Angeles?
LAX is about 27 km (17 miles) from downtown LA and roughly 25 km from Hollywood. By car it takes 30–60 minutes or more depending on traffic. The LAX FlyAway bus runs to Union Station, and Metro’s LAX/Metro Transit Center connects to the K and C Lines via shuttle.
Can you walk between terminals at LAX?
Yes. All terminals are around one loop and you can walk between them landside in 5–20 minutes. Airside connections exist between some terminals, including between TBIT and several neighbouring terminals. A free shuttle also runs around the loop.

How long is the flight from Los Angeles to Frankfurt?
Nonstop flights from LAX to Frankfurt take about 10.5 to 11.5 hours, usually departing in the afternoon or evening and arriving the next day. Germany is 9 hours ahead of Los Angeles. Lufthansa and Condor arrive at Frankfurt Terminal 1.
